Ready for some playhouse updates?! Three weeks ago we introduced this project, built the frame, and then started on the exterior. Today I wanted to show you how we finished off the front elevation and roof! This little playhouse is really starting to come together and I’m able to do some of the fun decorating parts!
Ready to hear my next big project I’ll be tackling?! It’s another bathroom! This time my husband’s bathroom! So, last year, I took his bathroom from a dark wood hole, and painted every surface to make it passable. I spent $215 and was really proud of the space. BUT, the tile in the shower is gross and we’re ready to give the room a full gut job. Here’s the plans for that.
In case you weren’t around last year when I did this project, here’s how the bathroom started:
There was SO much tile and wood paneling. It was brown and dark and depressing. I rarely went in there, because I have my own bathroom. But it was the last room that needed attention so I threw $215 at it for a lovely bandaid.
And yes, my husband and I have our own bathrooms and it’s the best thing that ever happened to our marriage. He can spend forever in his and I can spend forever in mine. And then we don’t argue or almost pee our pants waiting for the other person. I can leave my makeup everywhere and he won’t be bugged by me. It just works for us.
ANYWAY, after the budget update, here’s how the space looked for the budget bathroom reveal–

While the bathroom is cute and I’m SUPER proud of it. Because, I mean, it’s worlds better now! It’s not perfect. A few months ago, my husband brought up gutting the room. Here’s his reasons-
So my husband and I were talking about this update and I told him about the dream I dreamed. Want to hear about it? Well, it’s to tile a room with a rainbow colored tile. And HE SAID YES! In his bathroom! Am I the luckiest girl that he lets me do my thing?!
And yes, I know I just did a rainbow bathroom, but this will be totally different. The heart wants what the heart wants- ok?
The day he said yes to this project was the day I started searching the internet for the perfect rainbow tile. I needed a tile that came in lots of colors in pastel rainbow tones. Which is not the easiest thing to find. While I was furiously googling, I hit jackpot- the Color Market tiles from The Tile Shop. They’re beautiful. Let me show you-
SO many pretty colors- could you just cry?! I think it’s 37 varieties. And do you see all of those pastel colors nestled in there? I ordered a bunch of samples and here’s what I narrowed it down to-

Just one wall will be tiled in the rainbow colors. The rest of the walls will be white subway tile and super classic. I’m envisioning that one wall with horizontal tile stripes with white between each color. Here’s the mood board I put together-

The patterned tile is for the floor. I’m also wondering about just going for the fun colors and not doing a stripe of white between each one. What’s your preference?

A few weeks ago, I mentioned my plans to redo my fire pit area. And, well, the time has come! The day is now! Please sing that if you’re a Les Mis fan ;). This is something I’ve wanted to do since last year so it’s pretty exciting to finally have this space finished since we do so many fires. Anyway, I wanted to show you my backyard fire pit reveal and how to make a DIY wood folder!
A few weeks ago I thought “this bathroom needs a one day refresh” and then, well, I tore the wallpaper off and was completely surprised to find water damage. So my one day refresh turned into a few weeks of work. But that’s ok because I took a bunch of time to think of how I really want the space to feel, and so I was able to really able to make it mine for this rainbow bathroom reveal.
This is an exciting week for the playhouse- the exterior is almost complete and we have a roof! Just a few weeks ago the playhouse started as a piece of plywood on the ground. I’m looking forward to showing you the evolution on this week’s edition of building a playhouse- the exterior.

On Thursdays, I go thrifting and share ideas on Instagram for how to use items from second hand stores in fun and modern ways. Well, this leads to me falling in love with stuff because I take the time to consider how cute they can actually be! Case in point- tourist state plates. I kept seeing them and then figured how to hang state souvenir plates in a way I love so I started collecting them.
Here’s the photo I saw that convinced me to start finding my own collection-
The colors are so fun and don’t look sad or dated at all! I knew I could create a similar wall!
Oh a bit of a whim, last week I started making over my bathroom. I tore down the wallpaper and thought I’d spend a day painting and then call it a day. Instead, I’ve been taking my time and making it feel more like me. A few days ago I painted the door frame with scallops and today I put up a bathroom gallery wall.
These past few weeks, I’ve been working on Don’s playhouse. I thought I’d redo a little table I found thrifting (it was $4!) for his space. While I share the quick makeover, I thought I’d also talk about chalk paint vs. latex paint. The differences, the pros and cons and why I paint furniture with chalk paint.
Welp, I’m over here still working on my bathroom. And I have a fun update today! I shared last week about how I want to add scallops to the space, and yesterday it happened! Want to see how to paint a scalloped door frame?!
On the 4th of July, we hosted a little BBQ and right before everyone arrived, our umbrella stand broke. Through the whole party, the umbrella kept almost falling over- so annoying. So we decided to use the top from the old stand to make a new one. Pretty recently, we made an umbrella stand that worked like an end table. So this time I thought I’d share hot to make an outdoor planter umbrella stand.
