2018 was a big, happy year for me. I thought I would take a brief look back at my favorite rooms that I’ve decorated this year. And just take a minute to remember what a beautiful (and challenging) journey this year has been.
my favorite rooms of 2018- florida
In January of 2018, my little family moved from Utah to Florida. We sold our condo even though we knew the move to Florida was just temporary (we tried out being “snow birds” for a year). I had SO much fun adding a coastal/beach vibe to my normal girly look!
My favorite rooms in that house (my first ever “beach house”) was the living room and dining room that sat back to back:
I also really loved Don’s room! From the cloud mural to that ship, it felt magical. Honestly, it might be my favorite room I’ve decorated from him.
And outside, the patio and A-Frame playhouse that my husband and I built were pretty fun spaces too.
Fairview Cottage
In June, our lease was up, so we packed up and moved back to Utah. We had spent months house hunting across the country and finally found a little house we loved and could afford. It was VERY tricky finding a place we could qualify for since my husband and I are both self employed. Qualifying for and getting a mortgage, even for a super inexpensive house, was tricky.
Finally, we found a lender who would work with us and put an offer down! It was accepted and we were thrilled! During the inspection process, we had the house tested for everything so we’d be educated buyers. One of those tests revealed that it had been a meth house. Sigh. Meth had only been smoked in the house, but it still needed to be cleaned out.
We had hoped to move straight from the Florida house into our new house, but that did not happen. So we lived with my in-laws for June and July. It was so sweet of them to take us in! It was hard for me to not have my own space to decorate, so when we finally got the keys to the cleaned up house, we were ecstatic!
renovations
Since then, I’ve slowly been working on this home. It is an old Victorian house that was built in 1905. I named it Fairview Cottage and have loved decorating it. Some rooms, I’ve moved our items in and made the space work for us without major renovation. Like, the living room.
The biggest renovation that’s been completed so far is the master bedroom. It was done as part of the One Room Challenge and I’m so proud of that beautiful space!
Another room that I’m really happy with is the bathroom with my pink claw foot tub. The wallpaper is so fun and I love how the brass accents really warm up the room. Switching out the window for a bigger one helped a lot too!
The kitchen is still a work in progress. But I am proud that I’ve been able to do a budget friendly update with some paint and peel and stick tile backsplash. If you have a room that is dark and depressing, just know that with some major elbow grease, you can make it pretty.
A really fun update I did was on the front porch. The doors got switched out, everything got painted, I added a few key details and soon it was my dream entry! Here it is, all decorated for the holidays.
These are my favorite 10 spaces I decorated in 2018. I’d love to hear your favorite! And definitely stay tuned, I have a lot more exciting rooms coming up in the new year!
