How to style your outdoor space.
Hi Friends! My deck is getting super close to being complete for the One Room Challenge. I am down to gathering the details that will pull the space together- AKA the fun part! Also, the make it or break it part. Here’s a sneak peek!
I have been doing a ton of research on how to pull an outdoor space space together through accessories, and I thought you might appreciate what I have learned in case you are tackling a similar project as the weather warms up. And what better way to illustrate this than through pretty pictures?!
All photos (except the Flamingo one above) are from Shop Terrain, the garden store owned by Anthropologie. I love this shop because it has a very old world, gathered look to it. I am going to use photos from their shop to illustrate how to style an outdoor space.
Styling your outdoor space is all about nature. The first thing is to start with your base furniture and lots of plants. You might also consider these furniture-like elements that will create a good foundation to your outdoor room:
Garden Stool
Rug
Fire Pit
Umbrella
Lights
Swing
Hammock
Next you can layer in your accessories-
Wreath
Hanging Planters
Terrarium
Bird House
Lanterns
A whimiscal detail like a Flamingo or Gnome
Candle
Interesting Planters
Any cement accessories that will weather well
Decorations for your walls like a mirror or mounted planters.
p.s. if you need more outdoor art ideas, check back next week, I’ll have a whole roundup of options!
Any items so you can plant/garden/prune your space
Gloves
Garden Tools
Watering Can
Twine
Extra Pots
You can also put Textiles outside:
Throws
Pillows
Floor Cushions
Table Cloth
Drapes
For styled photos, add evidence that a person has been there:
Hat
Book
Cup, napkin, drink
Sunglasses
Shoes
And now you have a cheat sheet so you can layer on accessories to create a perfectly inviting space!

Great post!! I have been gathering ideas for doing my porch and deck, so this will come in very handy!!
Thanks Nupur! Good luck with your outdoor spaces- I am sure they will be lovely!
I have an inexpensive idea for the kitchens! Use yard sticks for the trim! I have used for other trim jobs. I sand them down so remove the markings and any indentations, paint and cut a 45 degree angle and wowlaa! Trim!
