In early December 2019 I got super exciting news, the house in Florida where we’d put an offer in had been accepted! We’d be moving across the country from Utah and putting our house up for rent as a short term rental. I thought I’d share the 10 things I learned from renting out my house as an Air BNB. [Read more…]
The Cutest Retro Microwaves
As we’ve been adjusting to life in our new home, there was one thing in my kitchen I’ve been missing. So I shopped around for one that would go with our other retro appliances. And I found some very cute options that I want to share with you. Here are the cutest retro microwaves.
What to Do If You Have Termites
Big Chill Appliance Review
A few months ago, my dreams came true when my Big Chill appliances arrived! They’re retro inspired and come in over 200 colors. The styling is beautiful and feels straight out of 1950’s. Which is perfect for this 1951 house! Ever since I first started using these, I’ve gotten lots of questions on them. Do you like them? Are they worth it? Here’s my Big Chill Appliance review.
Fluted Bathroom Cabinet Refacing DIY
As I mentioned yesterday- it’s time to redo my bathroom! It’s full of 1950’s retro tile that I’m keeping. But the rest needs modernizing. First up- the bathroom cabinet! It was laminate, not original to the space, and just kind of sad looking. So I decided to do a fluted bathroom cabinet refacing DIY. I think you’ll love this transformation!
How Do You Change a 3 Hole Faucet to 1 hole?
Today is an exciting day! It marks the start of my bathroom renovation. As I mentioned before, I’m going to keep the vintage tile and do some fun DIYs to modernize the space and make it feel more like me. First step, new faucet! Only one problem- I want to go from a center set faucet (with 3 holes) to a single faucet. But how do you change a 3 hole faucet to 1 hole?
Contact Paper for Countertops
Last week I gave my kitchen a refresh with painting the cabinets and putting up a contact paper backsplash. I’m not quite ready for a remodel, so I’m doing budget friendly fixes that’ll make it more pretty for now. The biggest issue was my dark brown granite counters. Since I wanted a lighter look, I went for grey marble contact paper for countertops. Want to see the DIY?!
Upcycled Planter DIY
Want to hear my favorite thing? Taking old stuff and finding a new and fun way to use it! So, a few weeks ago my husband alerted me that our neighbor had thrown away two nightstands. Since there’s a thrift shop sized hole in my heart, I raced outside and saw some beat up pieces of furniture I had to have. I scooped them to make this upcycled planter diy!
before
So this is what I saw from my back yard- two nightstands in the alley (where the trash is collected).
They looked a little rough- both were missing the drawer. They were dirty and beat up. But then I remembered something I’d seen on Pinterest- a planter made from old furniture! Maybe I could use these to make the same?! They sat on my patio for a bit, but yesterday I started on this SUPER easy DIY project!
Little Free Library Plans
I love the idea of a Little Free Library! They give access to books to kids and adults all day, every day. It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors and embrace your love of reading. I thought I’d share my Little Free Library Plans so you can build one too! This tutorial has been used by hundreds of people and I hope it’s helpful to you too.
At my last house, I had the cutest Little Free Library that I LOVED. It was built from an up-cycled cabinet. This project will build the library from scratch.
If you haven’t heard of little free libraries- they are book share boxes made by normal people and put outside their homes or shops that are filled with books that anyone can borrow or add to. Plus, they’re a great way to creatively make something that will benefit your neighbors while building community connections. Plus they look cute outside your house!
