Buying this house, one thing really perplexed me- where would we eat? There isn’t a dining room, just a large kitchen. So we put our table (that was too big) in the kitchen and it was fine. I didn’t like having to push the table against the wall and it was really hard to get in and out of the room.

The second floor of our house is for one thing right now- sleeping (oh and renovating- our master bedroom is coming along nicely). Soon we’ll also have a play room up there, but for now, there’s just bedrooms. So I decided when choosing window coverings to try something new- interior shutters.

This week, the biggest update is that the wallpaper went up!
The wallpaper is from Milton & King and is their Tropical Birds paper. It went up so smoothly- the paper is thick and high quality gorgeousness! It’s only going on the wall behind the bed and the wall with the closet. The pattern has a lot of personality, so I don’t want to over do it.
The walls are all textured now, so I can start painting them soon. They will all be going Ultra Pure White by Behr (the same color as the eaves above the wallpapered wall). 
We had an electrician come and center the ceiling fan in the room. He also put a light box and switch for the new closet. Next up the shiplap will go on the ceiling and then we’ll lay the new floors!
The flooring is being delivered tomorrow and I’m so excited to see it in person! I choose a white oak from Overstock and love the soft color. The planks are a little thicker- 7.5″ which I think will look nice with the age of the home.
The rug is from Courtisan and is the Sechin in Opal. I like the large scale pattern which should play nicely with the wallpaper. I think the fringe is a nice fun detail! Its a fun, modern rug. I like how it’ll be a bit of a contrast with the traditional room- I’ve gotta keep things from getting boring!

I’ve got to tell you, I’m so, so excited for the bedding! Above is a similar set-up to what I’ll be doing. I’ll have a tassel throw (no longer available) at the foot of the bed, two pink tasseled Euro pillows (no longer available), a round velvet pillow (no longer available), a white ruched duvet cover, linen pillow cases, striped sheets, and a floral accent pillow. Want another visual?!

The goal is to have a layered, textured bed. The only pattern will be the sheets and that’ll be really subtle. I’m really excited for this part of the room- can I make my bed already?!
So that’s where we’re at! Hopefully by next week the floors and ceiling will be complete. Then it’ll be building in the shelves and putting everything in the room. We’re getting there! Want to see what the other designers are up to?

When we bought our house, there were a lot of unwelcome items left behind- 2 washers, 2 dryers, a few lawnmowers, and a furnace. By the way, those were all broken. BUT these cast iron table and chair set was a fun find! I wasn’t a huge fan of the black/silver color, but I knew they had lots of potential!
I started painting the chair pink, but it was way too sweet with the floral chair (even Lucy thinks so!). So I started over and decided to go with chalk paint. I choose Fluff white and love how that turned out! I still wanted a hint of pink, so I decided that pink cushions would be perfect!
Chair cushions in pink are actually hard to find! I could only find one ok option for $20. Then I went to the thrift store and found the perfect sized cushion for $2 each, just in the wrong color. So I brought them home and painted them pink!
To paint fabric, just water down the paint a bit and paint the cushion. It will end up stiff, but it won’t crack. This is definitely the easiest way to change the color of fabric!
When I finished painting the chairs and table white, I set them on my porch and created a little tablescape. I’m a huge pink lover, so seeing all of this pink, floral cuteness together made me so happy!
‘The front pumpkin is inspired by Rifle Paper Co. The back pumpkin is a little coo coo, but I love the rainbow pinwheel!
By the way, that table cloth is actually a shower curtain that is somehow perfect for everything! I even used it for drapes for awhile! Best budget purchase ever!
I like how simple and cute this top pumpkin turned out! A little cursive boo was somehow perfect!
I hope you enjoyed this cute pastel pink Halloween scene as much as I did making it! I also painted the pumpkins with chalk paint and love the matte finish it gave them!

Halloween is right around the corner! I looooove this time of year! My little sister has a Halloween birthday so growing up, this was a very festive holiday. What better way to celebrate than decorating my newly finished porch with some spooky decor?! I am so excited to partner with the Home Depot to create this fun space!
I wanted to create a scene that was a little scary, but not too over the top since I have a three year old. The Home Depot has a TON of really fun Halloween decor! The witches who talk and move (!!!) caught my eye first! Then I decided to add some other items like a skeleton, bats, a talking raven, stackable pumpkins, and a cat skeleton to round out the fun.
I bought a few packages of cheese cloth for a few dollars from the Home Depot and cut them up to look like spider webs. Bats were hung in front of them. They move in the wind which makes them look like they’re flying! These details added a lot of texture and movement to the porch in an affordable way.
I hand painted a little trick or treat wood sign that I made with lumber from the Home Depot. Now I want to make one of these cute porch signs for each holidays!
This is our first Halloween in this house. I can’t wait to actually host trick or treaters here and share the fun little scene we created! The cat, skeleton, raven, and witches are all motion activated so they’re extra fun in person!

I am at the nitty gritty part of my room makeover- the demo on my master bedroom is done, rebuilding has begun, but the progress is slow and the to do list is long. I like the fun part of decorating at the end. But until we get there, I’m going to celebrate every movement forward! In case you’ve missed any of the past weeks, you can catch up here:

Drywall is up on the short wall- the bed will go on this wall. Once the wall is mudded, I’ll give it a coat of paint and then I can wallpaper it!
The most exciting progress this week is that the new closet has been framed and drywalled! This wall will get wallpapered soon too. The door is a $20 vintage find from Habitat for Humanity. I love adding in older pieces to keep the soul of this 1905 building intact.
More cosmetic work is needed on these walls- see what I mean by the nitty gritty?! The trim on the floor is begging to go up! I can’t wait for these finishing touches- it’ll get much prettier soon!
When we exposed the brick on the original fireplace, we found some badly damaged brick. Big cracks, huge holes in the motar. The chimney is crazy crooked. But still, I want to make it work. When I shared it on Instagram stories and asked if I should keep it, my favorite response is that “crooked is character, not cookie cutter.” Most people voted to keep it.
But how to make it work? And then I remembered the German smear technique! I’d seen it on Fixer Upper and love the idea because basically, you add white motar to the top of your brick. You can leave some of the brick exposed or fully cover it. I thought I could kill two birds with one stone with this method by making the brick prettier while fixing the flaws.
Cover your brick with motar or grout to add age and character to your brick.
Note, I covered the bottom of the chimney more thinly than the rest because it will be covered with a fireplace. I used one box of grout, but I'd guess that most fireplaces are bigger so you'll probably need 2 boxes of grout.
On the top of the chimney, we found a square of galvanized tin. I wanted to cover it, but didn’t want to hang something so high on the chimney (I’d prefer to hang it lower, at a normal point). So I decided to buy a center onlay and make a decoration out of it. I might paint it a creamier color to match the chimney.
On either side of the fireplace, I’m planning on a built in bookcase. From last week, you might remember my plans for a rainbow bookcase. Items are starting to arrive for it, so I gathered a few of them and set them out. Guys, this is the part I am excited for!

In my younger years, I did my makeup sitting on the floor in front of a floor length mirror. My husband and I were renting at the time and I totally burnt a spot in the carpet from my curling iron- oops!
I decided that it was time to invest in a vanity and chair. I spent around $200 and fell in LOVE with the luxury of being able to do my hair and makeup sitting in a little spot designed to get ready. When we first moved into our house, this is what the porch looked like- fine, but nothing special. The doors were white vinyl with an arched window. And lots of dents and scratches. I dreamed about changing it, and finally that happened!
